It all started with an innocent sentence "Want to know why I´m switching off on iOS?" The rest will be history. After zillions of posts about great Apple apps +Robert Scoble is dumping his beloved Apple iOS. No party in San Francisco used to be complete without an iPhone going hand to hand showing the newest beta-app to convince would-be investors.
A year ago all the cool kids had to be on Apple as all these creative apps were iOS only territory. They looked better, appealed to hipsters, had Instagram maltreated pics and apps which really intruded your privacy. Non believers were just not hip. Sharing was caring and the only thing nobody cared about was privacy.
A closed eco-system was the best that could happen to mankind. Quality guaranteed, as Steve Jobs personally decided what was allowed and all that non-standard stuff with custom themes, keyboards, apps and widgets was luckily forbidden to help mankind have the best user experience possible. One for all was Apple´s philosophy and individualism restricted to your choice of a white or a black iDevice.
´Be different´ was a forgotten statement from the early Apple years; look alike was the new formula. Yes Android took the lead in sales as consumers just ignored California, but cool investors wanted ´the real apps´
Until today that is. Suddenly +Robert Scoble – the glue which kept the hipsters in San Francisco together – switched sides. He wants a custom keyboard and Apple can´t deliver. He is switching ´away´ and embraces choice.
What´s next: a revolution of the individual and the victory of consumer choice? Will Android set California free? There will be some turning in graves… #Tech

Swiftkey 4.0 makes keyboarding on Android even faster Want to know why I’m switching off of iOS? Swiftkey is the #1 reason. I can type way faster on…
Nothing beats writing a good rant and getting your first plus from +Vic Gundotra is fun 😉 Let´s see if +Robert Scoble is a good sports…
+Shaker Cherukuri I've been running swiftkey since Gingerbread – but I like T9 Flex better.
This version works from Froyo on +Shaker Cherukuri
I started using Swiftkey a couple of months ago. It's truly amazing. Almost scary how well it predicts what I want to say (I HATE being so predictable). My phone still uses 2.3.6, and I now like typing on my phone more than on my desktop (probably because of the novelty Swiftkey presents). I'm surprised there's nothing like it on iOS.
+Max Huijgen that was a rant? You're such a nice guy 🙂
The Scoble's rants pre-coffee are usually hilarious.
So glad I bought this keyboard for 10 cents. I'm actually feeling kinda guilty because of that as well haha
Awesome keyboard, I love that you don't have to change dictionaries all the time.
I switched from an HTC Desire to an iPhone 4S about 14 months ago. What I miss the most? SwiftKey. I miss it every day. Every. Single. Day. The keyboard on an iPhone feels incredibly outdated after you have been using SwiftKey for 6 months. Just my two cents here.
Btw. +Max Huijgen that was an excellent piece, both accurate and tongue-in-cheek, like good parody :-).
Thanks +Marc Roelofs It was fun to write 🙂
Since I have 4.2 the stock keyboard has replaced Swiftkey for me on my Nexus 4 and 7. It's better.
