An eye for an eye, a bombing for a beheading

this evening a cruel video circulated of a live execution of James Foley, a US photo journalist who got beheaded by IS (Islamic State). It rightly upset everyone who was unlucky enough to see the YouTube video.

Google removed the video, but not the lasting image on my mind, nor the shocking message. I advise people not to google on it as it's gruesome and your imagination is probably good enough to imagine a clumsy beheading.

However that's not what IS wanted to tell the world. The real world message was that they didn't accept the bombings by the US killing tens or hundreds of their soldiers. The bombs rained from high on the skies as well as by invisible drones.

The Islamic State didn't have a response so they switched strategy: blackmail is the new weapon against the US. The execution of poor James Foley wasn't the message: the threat to kill more Americans was.

Underreported in the first news items is that after butchering Foley the executioner showed another captured American journalist Steven Joel Sotloff and threatened to kill him next:
The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision

The official Western policy on blackmail has always been that negotiations are out of the order. The reality was that Nato countries often paid to get their citizens safe.

What to do in a war like situation? The US is not in any war with IS or Iraq. The first is not recognized, the second is a befriended nation. Treating it like a terrorist threat? The Islamic State does have an army of sorts and does occupy substantial territory.

We can ignore their existence but we can't get them away by the same kind of wishful thinking. Drone killings are a horror; beheadings are shocking. How to proceed?

How to cope with the eye for an eye policies by IS and the US: how many victims are acceptable? #Politics

  1. Why did Mossad create ISIS ? http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/08/04/french-report-isil-leader-mossad/
And why do the Zionists continue to murder Americans ?

  2. Give em a heads up, then nuke that whole region. Let em glow for the next hundred years.

  3. Munawar Butt says:

Do the right thing, wipe out ISIS and their supporters and pull your support of rulers who still fund and support terrorists.

  4. How should they proceed? I can't say. I'm not involved enough to be able to say. However I believe that I know how they will proceed.
A black ops group will be dispatched with snipers. They will kill the kidnappers, rescue the hostage, pat themselves on the back. Reiterate that they did negotiation with blackmail/terrorists then make a damned movie out of it.
Will that solve the problem? No. Will it prevent future attacks and beheadings? No.
It will address the immediate problem, while allowing them to feel superior.

  5. Paul Wooding says:

I'm not sure who said it, but "You can't kill an idea" seems to apply to IS and fanatical/fundamental Islam.
As for the video, I learnt many years ago with these uploads, that you soon realise that they are not Hollywood and makeup and effects, but real life – and the image stays with you a lot longer because of that. So they are best avoided.

  6. Jason Jones says:

ISIS the NAZI threat of the 21st century, treat them as such..but with nukes not boots.

  7. How can you people hate ISIS and still love the Israeli's that created and maintain ISIS ?

  8. I'm for letting people decide if they can handle watching the video. People need to see what kind of Islamic terrorists we are dealing with. Time to take the gloves off.

  9. Bruce Brown says:

"East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet – until all come together at God's Great Judgement Seat" R. Kipling. Having said that, I recall, from history, I was not there, Harry Truman's words to the Japanese after the second bomb – something to the effect, unless they surrender unconditionally, the 'Japanese People and Homeland will be completely and utterly destroyed' – took a few days, they did. More difficult times now, but I'm pissed off. Blow them back to the stone age – where there is not a round wheel on the entire landscape, or an axle to push it on to, or a straight piece of anything longer that 2 inches long. No evidence of civilization at all. No, probably not, sure feels good to type it, though, right now.

    Willful ignorance David ?
ISIS is Zionists "pretending" to be Muslims. Just like millions of Zionists "pretend" to be Jewish and millions more "pretend" to be Christians.
Its not rocket science. Figure it out and quit aiding the enemy.

  11. Paul Hosking says:

Hooo boy – lookit them blueheads troll.

  12. Paul Wooding says:

The problem as I see it, is that middle eastern countries need a dictator to keep the various factions in check. The Western model of democracy and freedom does not sit well with the culture.

We should not have interfered and meddled with something that worked reasonably well. Politicians should just work with whatever dictator is in power to make the best of a bad system.

What's needed is for a "moderate" dictator to be helped into power, and they can then "moderately" deal with the extreme groups. The dictator can then be controlled by sanctions and the usual secret deals.

The important thing is that the new dictator be allowed to fight the extremists with the same tactics. That removes the guilt and blame from Western countries.

  13. +Dennis Nickell BS… these are Islamic terrorists. Rid the planet of them, period.

  14. +Paul Hosking
Yeah, and unlike the Hasbara brats, we're even here on the Sabbath because we don't get paid to be here.

  15. Robert Coker says:

    Nickell – your an idiot.
Duke Nuke 'Em – what about all that radiation falling on India (wind born). Not a good idea.
Black ops – we will never know if this is done probably. Probably not an option given the number of these nutjobs.

Probably best to stay out of this area. Journalists have to know they are taking their lives in their own hands and will be treated as combatants. Large news orgs are probably already doing this. Someone said an idea is a powerful thing. These Islamists are motivated by a great idea, just like the Vietnamese were with Communism. However, the Islamist idea is much bigger than Communism ever was. Islam is the biggest religious cult in history. Their fanaticism has no bounds. Best to stay out of their way, protect our borders and let them fight it out themselves.

  16. R T says:

The people who most need to see that video are the silent majority of moderate and liberal Muslims. Where is the tangible movement against extremism in the Muslim world? Forget the occasional mention that most Muslims are non-violent. Most Muslims are apparently non-action, too.

  17. +R Sulli
The people that need most to see that video are the ones that still support Zionism.

  18. Robert Coker says:

Nickell – did you know you are an anti-semite. Your in good company there.

  19. Robert Coker says:

Sulli – good point. It is common knowledge that throughout history Muslims have done whatever their Imams say to do. Maybe the blame should go to these guys.

  20. +Robert Coker
    I'm anti-Semite ? I'm Jewish you brain dead moron.
Notice I didn't say Zionist. Zionists are the true anti- Semites.

  21. Ben Thomas says:

How to Proceed? By: Having "No-foreign Combat boots on the ground" in Syria or the Middle-East !

  22. If not for our thin resumed POTUS, this would have never happened. The rise of ISIS is a direct result of Obama's promise to end the war in Iraq. So how's that working for ya?

  23. +Munawar Butt "Do the right thing, wipe out ISIS and their supporters and pull your support of rulers who still fund and support terrorists."
That sure would piss off AIPAC and the Israelis.

  24. R T says:

+David Crawford Maliki kicked us out of Iraq so he could oppress the Sunni minority, which led to this, in part. The 3 year war in Syria is the tangible reason. 70% of the US population did not want the US to remove Assad. But Obama was pretty damned close to doing it.

  25. The IS (IS) = Mossad story is know as an Iranian hoax. A clever one, people actually get convinced of it's 'truth' and spread it. But please refrain of repeating and then reacting here; it has so little to do with the cruelty +Max Huijgen warned us not to watch, the dilemma it brought.

  26. +David de Beer "The IS (IS) = Mossad story is know as an Iranian hoax. A clever one, people actually get convinced of it's 'truth'. But please refrain of repeating and then reacting here; it has so little to do with the cruelty +Max Huijgen warned us not to watch, the dilemma it brought."
So you want America to believe the "Veterans Today" and the French Press are controlled by Iran ?
Are you retarded or is it just your Hasbara handlers that are retarded ?
Did Iran "plant" this story as well ?

  27. +David Crawford
The creation of ISIS is a direct result of Israel trying to destabilize Syria so they could steal more than just the Golan Heights.
Just like they created Hamas to divide the Palestinians and steal more of their land.

  28. What's domestic other than Earth, +Liz E , considered that this message spans across it? We're simply all involved, even it does not happen at your (!?!) porch.

  29. I'm not watching that video! Those bastards won't be getting my mouse click.

    Rest in peace James Foley.

  30. If President Bush adhered to the warnings, invading Iraq would destabilized the region. America would not be in this mess.

    Obama inherited this cluster F***!

  31. Obama inherited a mess, but Obama spit on the graves of the soldiers that gave their lives in Iraq. He wanted to keep a campaign promise to ensure reelection. As war fatigued as the country was, we had to stay in-country to prevent what is now happening. Thanks Obie!

  32. +David Crawford
Bush sent them to their graves for no reason other than corporate profits. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

  33. No, I was not +Liz E
Thanks to media and in particular Internet the world became some sort of global village. What's happening in Ferguson for example, is like it's happening the next block. If it's not now, here (many thousands miles away) it might well spread and affect us directly. Now we can see the next 'block' suffering.
