About Me

Hi reader, pleased to meet you here.

My name is Max, I’m a Dutch native, living in Spain and I love to engage with my readers. I don’t believe in long winded essays, I prefer to write short opinionated well-informed comments on whatever triggers one of my many interests. I’m only satisfied if I can contribute to an intelligent debate.

Most of the texts on this blog were written within half an hour so they necessarily fall short of any literary quality, but the flood of comments they generated were always of much higher value. As it should be. I truly believe that just dumping an idea, an opinion or a critique should not be the end goal of any text.  Fun Fact: the 200 posts on this blog generated more then 9000 comments

Writing for me is all about helping readers form and articulate their own views; to promote and nurture productive debate which makes people refine, grow and sometimes even change insights and opinion based on arguments.  Provoking people with a rant is easy; challenging people to use their mind to its full capacity -overstepping their initial preconceptions- is much, much harder, but extremely satisfying. It’s what makes me tick.

I write on a variety of subjects,  Have a look at my social media activity on G+ (plus.google.com/+MaxHuijgen) and you will notice there are no boundaries to my interests. I can and will write avidly about anything although I still have to explore the world of knitting. I’m open to it though…

On this site I collected my dearest subjects: politics (international relations and European unity mostly) and technology. The latter goes from the latest gadget to the legality of patents; from society’s reaction to privacy intrusions to explanations of the cryptology used in the Flame-virus.

Q&A

Q: No updates after 2014?

A: Nope, got too busy and spent most of my time writing for business

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I have been a political scientist, computer programmer, author, entrepreneur in high-tech, business analyst, writer and I probably forgot some stuff. After five years or so things often get boring so I have always followed my interests and never been someone’s employee.

Q: The Tech Journalism category mostly shows zero comments

A: I was allowed to copy articles written for the EuroTech magazine to this personal site which is great. Unfortunately most comments were lost in the process.

Q: Are you for hire?

A: Sure, if you are looking for a sharp analyst for your business case a social media manager or an engaging writer for your (tech) magazine or blog, contact me. No matter the subject I try to  explain hard subjects as simple as feasible and avoid all unneeded jargon and acronyms to broaden the audience to the max. To maximize engagement I like to give the story a little twist by thinking outside of the box. Within 3 years my posts generated almost 100K +1’s/likes, 50K+ comments, 20K+ reshares and over 10 million pageviews on social media. Check some of my journalist work as well, its collected here under its own category.
